The College of Nursing and Health Sciences prepares diverse healthcare professionals who are collaborative providers and leaders in the delivery of high quality, accessible, culturally-competent and compassionate care.

Interprofessional Initiatives

Healthy Kids

Students in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences work together to provide health screenings to hundreds of school aged children in Lowndes and Elmore counties each year.  College students work in teams to screen children while learning more about how to function in health care teams and communicate as professionals with a common goal to improve the health of the community.  There’s a place for you to be part of our team!

Warhawk Hospital

A mock hospital environment is created in the learning laboratory where all students in the college can provide care for their mannequin patients who have lifelike qualities. How do you work together when a patient becomes very ill? What blood tests are needed? Do you know what has to happen in the clinical laboratory to process the blood tests? You will go to the laboratory and participate with the clinical laboratory students in order to better understand the process.

What happens when your patient can’t swallow effectively? Your patient has a hearing deficit and needs medical attention- what should you do? The Communication Disorders students will work with you to understand what treatments will be ordered and how to participate in the process.  Students from all health disciplines work together to solve clinical problems, assist patients and their family members and once done the students debrief together.  They address ethical dilemmas, participate in patient rounds and learn together.  Sound exciting? Join us as we  “save lives” in a safe learning laboratory where we provide care, learn together and become better health care professionals—together!
